REFLEX ACTION - OUR SAVIOUR
INTRODUCTION
Reflex action is a sudden and involuntary response to stimuli. It helps organisms to quickly adapt to an adverse circumstance that could have the potential to cause bodily harm or even death. Pulling our hands away immediately after touching a hot object is a classic example of a reflex action. A reflex arc is a pathway that controls a reflex.
OBJECTIVES
Learner will be able to :
- Define Reflex action and reflex arc
- differentiate between reflex action and involuntary actions
- cite more examples of reflex actions
- recognize the components of reflex arc
- explain the function of each component of reflex arc
- understand the significance of reflex action in humans and other animals
